Overview

Vivid Dead is a much slower, moodier experience than most games in this space. This is a Japanese horror platformer that leans heavily into suspense, mystery and unsettling atmosphere.

You play as a sickly protagonist investigating strange incidents around a prestigious private school. Students are falling ill, rumors are spreading and nothing feels quite right. Most of the gameplay revolves around platforming, combat, making choices and piecing together clues.

The adult elements are secondary to the story and presented in a more old-school style. The real strength here is the tension: pixel art, sound design and pacing all work together to keep you uneasy the entire time. If you are into intense games and do not mind a slower burn with darker themes, this one stands out.

Story

A private school with a spotless reputation starts losing students to an illness nobody can explain. A sick protagonist with little left to lose goes looking for the reason, and the deeper the search goes, the less the place behaves like a school at all.
