Overview

Renryuu: Ascension is one of those RPG Maker games that makes you stop and ask how there is this much game here. The first hours feel like classic fantasy adventuring, exploring, meeting factions and getting pulled into a continental conflict, and then the game reveals its real obsession: recruitment and infrastructure.

You start stacking characters, not a few companions but a huge roster with unique events and requirements. Some come from straightforward quests, others are tied to world states, faction outcomes or moral direction. Then there is the headquarters, where the time goes: buildings to upgrade, systems to unlock, resources to manage and research that opens new feature chains. Early HQ growth is exciting because every upgrade is a new toy, later growth gets expensive and grindy.

Combat is traditional turn-based, kept interesting by roster variety, and the bigger feature is scale, with army battles and political outcomes that reshape who stands with you. The moral alignment layer matters too, because the game lets you drift and the world responds: which characters feel safe around you, which routes open and which factions treat you like a threat. Art consistency varies between artists, but the volume and structure carry it.

Story

A continent at war does not wait for anyone to be ready. You inherit a claim, a headquarters and a long list of people who might follow you, depending entirely on who you turn out to be.
