Overview

Problematic Subjects has a wild premise and then surprises you by being far more mechanically demanding than you expect. You play as Emily Green, a teacher managing detention sessions with a cast of problem students, and the core hook is essentially a memory and preference system. You are not clicking through dialogue, you are learning patterns, remembering what works for which character and trying to execute sessions cleanly.

If you go in thinking it is a sequence viewer you will bounce off. If you treat it as a system-driven game where you are mastering a loop, it becomes addictive. You mess up, restart, learn and improve, and that I almost had it feeling kicks in. Progression is structured by levels, with Detention as the main base and the Infirmary added later, and unlocks tied to performance, including multiple endings per level and a true ending route.

Production value carries a lot of it: consistent art, polished animation and voice acting that makes the characters feel present. Recent updates cleaned up friction with better readability, clearer danger indicators and fewer softlocks, pushing it toward hard but learnable. Some content is locked behind Patreon, which changes the vibe for some players, but mechanically this is one of the few games in the space where you can honestly call it a skill loop.

Story

Emily Green runs detention, and detention runs on patterns. Every student has their own limits, their own tells and their own way of turning a session into a disaster if you stop paying attention.
