Overview

CATMORPHOSIS starts off almost silly, and that is part of the trap. You play as Johann, fresh off a breakup, who orders a cat from a suspicious website. The premise feels absurd, until it is not.

The game slowly shifts from mundane office life into something deeply unsettling. The cat is not normal, the encounters grow stranger and the tone darkens with every chapter. The bright, colorful retro art style contrasts with what is actually happening, and that makes the horror land harder. It feels wrong on purpose.

Gameplay is visual novel based, with branching dialogue and escalating consequences. The horror here is about escalation, watching things spiral while knowing you could have walked away earlier. Early impressions praise the originality and warn that it is very niche, but for anyone into bizarre transformation-heavy psychological horror it is memorable.

Johann is newly single, bored and online at the wrong hour. The website has no reviews, the listing is vague and the delivery arrives a few days later. What comes out of the box is not a cat.
