Below Sunshade

Overview

Below Sunshade is an island survival RPG that makes you uncomfortable in a very specific way. You wash up stranded with Idrune, and the game immediately hands you a dynamic that shapes the early game: you are not optimizing a solo run, you are managing a fragile duo while the island quietly applies pressure.

The survival loop hits fast, with hunger, energy, gathering, hunting and crafting, and you are always doing math. If I go deeper into the forest, do I have the energy to get back? If I spend time crafting, do I lose daylight? Crafting matters because tools and gear are your lifeline, and small upgrades feel good because they reduce risk.

Combat exists and it is turn-based, but it is not the thrill. The tension comes from how everything connects: a bad fight steals time, energy and your safety margin for the next day. Meeting other survivors opens branching relationships and story paths, and escaping is not one objective with one route. The island itself feels like the antagonist, constantly asking whether you value stability or acceleration. It can be rough technically, but when it flows it nails its identity.

Story

The ship went down and the island did not care. Idrune survived with you, which is either company or a second problem depending on the day, and the only plan anyone has is to last long enough to find another one.
